If it’s been a long day of poor-quality smoked meat, then I start ordering dessert. If the meat is bad, then the sweet stuff is usually pretty good. I watched the knife man cut the brisket and it looked tough and springy, so I added a slice of chocolate cake to the order. Beans were unseasoned and the slaw was a wet mess. A hot link was little more than a spicy hot dog. Brisket…

Former top 50. Not bad, but could be better all around.

Great "little" hole in the wall Que spot. Will go back for sure when going to Corpus. Bob Monroe, Flower Mound, Tx.

Ok beef, great sausage and sauce. Potato salad was top rate as well. They give you seconds on anything you want which I've never seen. One of the friendliest places I've ever been!

Great place ribs were not great but the brisket was out of sight. New spot for the family on the way to the coast.

Couldn't taste the mesquite smoke on anything. The meats were all poorly cooked, but the sauce was great.

Ambience is a big thing here, with butcher paper, old photos, sweet older waitress. As for the 'cue, brisket had a good smoke but not

On the way to San Antonio stopped for dinner. No crowd but the poorboy sandwich still was render and savory. Still recommend Van's if you are between Corpus Christi and San Antonio,

The mesquite-smoked brisket was well seasoned and tender, and the sliced German sausage was slightly sweet and spicy. But the real winners at this rustic locale, decorated with vintage posters for old cowboy flicks, were the sides. Green beans sprinkled with garlic, onion, and bacon and not-too-chunky potato salad with thinly sliced carrots were a perfect reward for a long day of driving. Opt for a square of cornbread instead of a slice of white bread.
