Zimmerhanzahls - Smithville Long line, friendly service staff. Great value as I got ribs, brisket and sausage with all sides for only $11. Thick cut slices of brisket isn't particularly flakey and is a smidge dry, but has great flavor. Ribs have a tremendous smooth smokey, peppery flavor...despite being a little chewy were terrific. Sausage is dense and very peppery. Very homemade and unique. Tasty, but not my preference in style. The ribs were outstanding, the rest a bit disappointing. B-

Showed up at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon and all they had left was sausage. Really? Sausage was good with meaty texture.

Great staff!! We visited on a Thurs afternoon at 1:30. We ordered brisket, both lean and fatty, sausage and ribs. They were out of ribs. The lean brisket was very moist and tender. Seasoning was spot on. The fatty brisket needed to rendered just a bit more. It had a good flavor, but I wanted a little more seasoning. The sausage was delicious. Nice grind and seasoning.

First time here......sold out of ribs:( had the brisket and sausage. The lean brisket had a GREAT flavor and smoke ring....the fatty could have rendered down a little more.....the sausage really good flavor and a good snap.

I'm so lucky that I live just 8 miles down the road from Zimmerhanzel 's. I get several pounds of the ribs, sausage, and brisket at least twice a month and make it last all weekend. The chicken is also good. Get there early or you will miss out on the ribs.

Bert is a machine. He literally does everything. Try the sausage.

Took my motorcycle ride group here Saturday. Finally, a BBQ lunch that was almost as good as the ride itself. Two meats (weighed in at 3/4#) for $8.13 which was a mountain of Q. Brisket was cooked to my personal preference and sausage was as good as I've had recently. Only peeve I could come up with is that the brisket was sliced too thick.

Only a few folks were eating lunch when we arrived in this small, well-lit room decorated with mounted deer, but since we had seen the massive pits outside and the piles of post oak, we speculated that a good meal was ahead. We were right. The fat on the brisket wasn’t as rendered as it could have been, but the thick cuts had a quarter-inch smoke ring and a rich flavor and didn’t require a…

December 23, 2008, to February 5, 2009, were the longest six weeks in the history of Smithville, Texas. This setting for the movie “Hope Floats” was full of folks hankering for Zimmerhanzel’s Bar-B-Que, but their purveyors, Bert and Dee Dee Bunte, had called it quits after years of working the pits. After countless kind words of sadness about their closing, they decided to reopen to the relief of many. When we visited, the restaurant was nearly…
