Cool little place, quintessential small town joint. Ribs - tremendous flavor of smoke with a touch of sweetness. Terrifically done as they were tender but clung nicely to the bone. Brisket - outstanding. Great smoke with just enough salt for flavor. Nothing overpowering, just tender, smokey goodness throughout. I now see why this gets dubbed best in easy Texas. Nothing keeping it from being an A in my book!

The brisket was good as was the sauce, the sausage was not my favorite. Will eat there again.

Loved the German potatoes and the brisket was flavorful but to much sauce.

A reader forwarded me this note comparing Shorty’s BBQ to Pecan Lodge in Dallas. “At Shorty’s, you don’t have to wait and they don’t run out of food, AND the beef is just as good.” I’d seen the prominent signs for Shorty’s on Highway 80 east of Dallas*, but this was the note that got me to stop. I know from enough years of disappointments to go into these situations with tempered expectations, but a…
