I stop in here on way back from NE TX to Austin. Great brisket. Just right amount of smoke and tenderness. You will almost always see Kirby in back slicing brisket. You know you are in a place that wants you to taste most flavorful cut when they charge more for lean cut than moist.

Their beef sausage is fantastic. Brisket is not too bad either.

I really like the flavor and moistness of the brisket here. Sauce is also great.

For some reason the location on the hill does not quite match the food quality on the 2222 lake location.

Spare ribs were good.

Arrived hungry, left with a hand cart (actually 2 lbs. of brisket & 2 lbs of pulled pork...maybe to share with my friends back home. "This is what real barbecue is!') While I was picking up my order I woofed down the pulled pork sandwich. Each bite was moist & smoked to perfection. I also had the smoked collard greens...I wish they sold these in the grocery store. The greens were done just right. Not over cooked to soggy mush, but with a slight crunch with a little pulled pork to boot. I'll be sure to visit when I'm back. I love this place.

My visit to Petty’s BBQ was just a stop out of convenience. I came to Killeen to eat at another barbecue joint up the street. Big LL’s BBQ opened earlier this year just a mile away from Petty’s, and in a news story the owner announced “I don’t have to be number one to make money.” That may be correct, but he should at least be as good as the competition within a mile radius. I…
